Lansing Can Do Better (LCDB) was started by a group of citizens concerned about the Lansing Board of Water and Light's rush to build another $1 billion coal-fired power plant. We are ratepayers, mothers, fathers, grandparents, students, local energy experts, religious leaders, and professors who know that Lansing can do better by first investigating in renewable energy and efficiency.   The LCDB team is asking that the Lansing Board of Water and Light Advisory Panel and the Board of Commissioners:

  • Wait 24 months before making a decision on new baseload generation
  • Pursue aggressive weatherization and energy efficiency programs
  • Deploy renewable and distributed energy resources

Before we rush to build more coal plants, we need to protect our families and future against the threats of global warming and carbon dioxide by first investing in clean, renewable energy and efficiency. We believe that investing in more coal before renewable energy will hurt jobs, hurt ratepayers, and provide viable harm to public health and the environment.
