BWL Ratepayers: Just say NO to a coal plant proposal!

Lansing can do better than another coal plant.

Recently, the Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) unveiled a proposal for another coal-fired power plant to be built in our own backyards. This proposal was crafted behind closed doors without first obtaining approval or input from Lansing residents and BWL ratepayers – the rightful owners of the BWL. Now, the BWL expects a rubber stamp of consent from the public that will allow them to construct another outdated coal plant in Lansing and sock ratepayers with the costs.

We can do better than this!

Another coal plant is a bad investment; it will hurt our ability to create jobs of the future and saddle our city with a dirty and outdated coal-burning facility for the next 50 years. It will harm public health and contribute to global warming. It will send a signal to the rest of the world that we are not serious about developing a 21st century economy based on clean energy and efficiency. Lansing and area residents deserve new and modern technology that will send us into the future and create good-paying jobs. We can do better than more dirty coal.

Take action now. Tell the BWL it is wrong to thrust this backward coal plant proposal on our community without public consent. Instead, let’s modernize Lansing by investing in clean, renewable energy and efficiency. Let’s send a signal to the rest of the world that Lansing is serious about moving our city into the future, not clinging to the past.

Tell the BWL Commissioners, City Council, and the Mayor that Lansing can do better!
